Welcome to the internet home of
Michael F Bergmann
Hi!
This site is a temporary landing page. Standby for something new in this space soon, including documentation of projects and talks.I design and build systems for the exploration of technology as a foundational element in performance and storytelling, and fostering post-humanist and post-anthropocentric thinking through improvisational collaboration with synthetic intelligences. My process thrives on testing, breaking, and finding the edges. Works are open questions rather than strong statements.I am an Associate Professor in Performance at The Creative School at Toronto Metropolitan University. From there that I also run my Technological Research in Performance Lab.I received my MFA in Design from the David Geffen School of Drama at Yale University and held an Eldon Elder fellowship while there. I am also a member of IATSE Local ADC 659 and continue to design when possible.I am currently pursuing my doctorate in Critical Studies in Improvisation at the University of Guelph, examining post-anthropocentric improvisational performance modes for intersentient empathy and play, and what I call "Improvnetics."
